Placement Testing

Placement testing is completed by taking the TABE assessment. Students should make a testing appointment in advance to be able to test.

Results from this assessment will help identify your academic strengths and needs in Reading, Writing, and Math. Based on the results, you will be placed in courses appropriate for your skill level, ensuring a successful beginning in your classes and college career. While this assessment is important, TABE is not a pass or fail, so relax, take a deep breath and do your best!

Test Cost

There is no charge for Admissions Testing.

Testing Preparation Resources

For most people, testing can be a nerve-wracking process. The testing center is here to help and wants you to succeed. You may find the suggested links helpful. TABE study guides are available in the Career Center.

Program Enrollment

To enroll in a UBTech program, students must meet designated admissions testing requirements. UBTech uses the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE). These are used to evaluate your skill levels and the aptitudes needed to be successful in your program and the workforce.

In most cases, students who need assistance with these skills can be enrolled in Basic Skills classes before starting their training program.

You may be tested on:

  • Reading: Vocabulary and reading comprehension.
  • English: Spelling, punctuation, grammar, sentence and paragraph structure, etc.
  • Math: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages and decimals.
  • Typing and Computer Skills (operating system, e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets and electronic presentations) at the program required levels of competency.

To find out which tests are required for the program you are interested in, go to the Admissions Requirements on the program web page.
