This event occupies a space equivalent to 20 football fields, with more than 6,200 contestants testing their skills in over 100 separate events. Simplot Receives UBTech Connectivity Award Submitted by, UBTech Jared Jackson, Simplot Phosphate mine manager and Andrea Smith, Simplot human resource administrator attended the June Uintah Basin Technical College board meeting to receive a special award. College President Aaron Weight presented a UBTech Connectivity Award to Simplot for their partnership with UBTech and continued support for technical education. Simplot Donation to Benefit UBTech Diesel Mechanic Students Written by, Lezlee Whiting Heavy Duty Diesel program students at Uintah Basin Technical College will have an opportunity for hands-on training on a donated piece of equipment thanks to a relationship between UBTech and Simplot Phosphates. Simplot is also offering one paid externship at the phosphate mine north of Vernal for a UBTech student enrolled in the Heavy Duty Diesel program. Brady Trucking Partners with UBTech Offering $42,500 In Scholarships By, Lezlee Whiting and Stephanie Carter Brady Trucking has entered into a partnership with Uintah Basin Technical College to provide $8,500 in scholarships annually for students in the CDL program, for the next five years. “We have many scholarship opportunities and we aren’t having any problems using the funds. UBTech’s Intercampus Contest Sharpen Skills By, Stephanie Carter & Lezlee Whiting UBTech recently held a regional SkillsUSA Competition at the Vernal campus. Students from both campuses competed against each other to hone skills they have learned in their respective Automotive, Welding, and Carpentry programs. Local industry also participated in these competitions by assisting as judges and donating prizes. Welding students competed as individuals in beginning and advanced divisions. Snows honored as Champions of Education by UBTech By, Lezlee Whiting Three members of the Snow family were honored at a banquet hosted recently by Uintah Basin Technical College as Champions of Education. The patriarch of the family, Alva Crosby Snow was honored posthumously for the integral role he played in helping to plant the roots of higher education 50 years ago in Roosevelt.
