Brady Trucking has entered into a partnership with Uintah Basin Technical College to provide $8,500 in scholarships annually for students in the CDL program, for the next five years.

“We have many scholarship opportunities and we aren’t having any problems using the funds. It shows the need we have in the Uintah Basin,” said UBTech President Aaron Weight.

Brady Trucking’s Bill Kremin, director of human resources, along with company CFO Scott Ruppe, and Brian Hernandez, director of safety, met with UBTech administration to finalize the partnership.

“Finding qualified drivers is difficult,” said Kremin. “UBTech’s CDL program provides 12 weeks of driving experience, 260 hours of actual drive time. That’s gives us confidence that we will find good employees. Other driving schools aren’t pertinent to the driving conditions in the Uintah Basin.”

Larry Brady, who was raised in Vernal, started Brady Trucking in 1980. The Vernal-based company operates terminals and facilities in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Wyoming, Illinois and North Dakota with over 350 employees, 114 owner operators and a fleet of nearly 390 trucks hauling a variety of goods and products all over the United States.

It’s impressive that a national company has their corporate office right here in Vernal,” said Weight.

“Larry built a trucking company for truckers and by truckers. Most of the top managers have been or still are truck drivers,” Ruppe said, adding, “If you bought it, a truck brought it.”

Kremin said truck driving offers “a great career, great money, and a great retirement.”

One of several benefits of working for Brady Trucking is that drivers are paid a percentage of what they make for the company, Ruppe said, adding that Brady is not afraid to hire new drivers and does not discriminate.

“We have great female drivers,” said Kremin. “One who comes to mind is in management right now, but driving truck allowed her to have the income she wanted to raise her daughter.”

Potential CDL students interested in being hired by Brady Trucking need to have good references, driving records, background and work experience.

“We appreciate Brady Trucking,” said Weight. “Those who receive the scholarship won’t necessarily get hired by Brady Trucking, but it’s shows their commitment to the industry and it bodes well with Brady Trucking’s mission. Partnerships like these will grow scholarship opportunities by $300,000 over a 5-year period.”
