At the conclusion of an extensive search with over 30 qualified applicants throughout the United States, Mark Dockins has been named Vice President of Development at Uintah Basin Technical College (UBTech) effective January 6, 2020.

Dockins has deep roots in education. He began his career as an English teacher, served as Uintah High School assistant principal and later as the student services director prior to serving as the superintendent for Uintah School District.

Mark Dockins has been named Vice President of Development at Uintah Basin Technical College (UBTech) effective January 6, 2020.

“Dockins brings knowledge in education as well as leadership and funding experience as he oversees the development office,” said UBTech President, Aaron Weight.

Dockins has been a resident of the Uintah Basin for 25 years. He and his wife moved to the area from Lincoln, Nebraska, following the dream of living in a small town near the mountains.

“We are pleased that vice president Dockins will be joining UBTech,” Weight said. “He is a knowledgeable professional and will continue to inspire and develop technical education opportunities that support UBTech programs and students.”

This position became vacant in August when former UBTech Vice President of Development Bob Peterson, was named director of student affairs at Utah State University – Uintah Basin.

“UBTech is in a strong position to grow in areas of development,” said Weight. “With our goal and vision for the future, Dockins is a valuable asset for our foundation and community.”

Dockins earned his Ed.D from the University of Wyoming in Educational Leadership, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nebraska, an Administrative Certification through Utah State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Language Arts and English Language Learning through University of Nebraska.

“It’s an exciting opportunity to apply my knowledge in the higher education community. I look forward to being part of the UBTech leadership team. UBTech changes lives and I’m passionate to support its mission,” says Dockins. “It’s been a pleasure to be part of many positive accomplishments in Uintah County as superintendent and I appreciate the relationships that have grown over the last 25 years. I’m excited for this new opportunity. I will work diligently to promote student employment and economic development opportunities in the Uintah Basin and throughout the state.”

Dockins’ wife, Anna, is an educator at Uintah School District’s Adult Education. The two of them reside in Vernal and have two children, Aaron, 22, and Ciera, 20, who are currently attending Southern Utah University. In their spare time, the Dockins family enjoys being outdoors, backpacking, mountain biking, camping and fishing.
